Valentine’s Day Baby Food Recipes

What better way is there to demonstrate your love for your precious little one than with a special” Valentine’s Day baby food menu”, just for him!

Hearts for Valentine's Day

Breakfast - Fruit Sunrise

2 tbsp natural yogurt

2 slices fresh peach, peeled and stoned

1/2 kiwi

1/2 small banana

little pure maple syrup (optional)

1 tsp wheat germ

  1. Simply place the natural yogurt into your baby’s bowl and top with the sliced fresh fruit.
  2. If he isn’t ready for finger foods, then simply puree or mash the fruits together.
  3. Drizzle with a little maple syrup and sprinkle with wheat germ.

Lunch - “Hearty” Finger Foods

Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter (or just a knife if you’re artistic!), cut your baby’s favourite sandwiches into heart shapes. Or, try this gorgeous red pepper swirl...

1 small red bell pepper

1 wholewheat tortilla

3oz (3/8 cup) cream cheese, softened (or why not try preparing some homemade yogurt cheese?)

  1. Simply place the natural yogurt into your baby’s bowl and top with the sliced fresh fruit.
  2. If he isn’t ready for finger foods, then simply puree or mash the fruits together.
  3. Drizzle with a little maple syrup and sprinkle with wheat germ.

Dinner - Couscous Hearts

5 oz (5/8 cup) couscous

enough homemade stock to cook the couscous according to the directions on the pack (check our homemade chicken stock, beef stock and vegetable stock recipes)

2 cooked asparagus spears, chopped

2oz cooked carrots, chopped

little olive oil

  1. Prepare the couscous with the stock, then combine it with the cooked asparagus and carrots.
  2. Stir in a little olive oil, then place the mixture into a heart-shaped jello mould and press firmly.
  3. Turn out on to baby’s plate… and serve!

Dessert - Sweethearts

1tsp gelatine

1tbsp hot water

5fl oz (5/8 cup) grape juice

1/2 ripe nectarine, peeled and mashed

  1. Combine the gelatine with the hot water.
  2. Once the gelatine has dissolved completely, stir in the grape juice.
  3. Place the mashed nectarine into a bowl and stir in the gelatine mixture.
  4. Pour into a heart shaped jello mould and refrigerate until set.

Love-ly Apple and Apricot Cakes (sugar free)

Please note that this recipe contains one whole egg – some parents prefer to delay the introduction of egg white until their baby’s first birthday.

2 tbsp vegetable oil

12 oz (1 1/2 cups) sugar free applesauce

8 oz (2 cups) flour

1 egg

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cinnamon

4 oz (1/2 cup) dried apricots

  1. Before you begin, soak the apricots in warm water until softened.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375 deg F, 190 deg C.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the egg, then add the applesauce and oil and beat well.
  4. Next, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon.
  5. Beat until smooth.
  6. Chop the softened apricots, then stir into the mixture.
  7. Put paper cases into a cupcake/muffin pan to support them and half fill them with the mixture.
  8. Roll pieces of aluminium foil (one per cake) and wedge them between the pan and the paper cases.
  9. This will create a big ‘dent’ in the cakes, making them look heart shaped (or as near as possible!).
  10. Bake for around 25 mins until golden.

To make these apple cakes extra special, why not top them with some sugar free frosting?
