The First Years Soothie Newborn Pacifier

by Kimberly Jones

The first years Soothie newborn pacifier is the brand that was given to me at the hospital. I originally thought that I would not use a pacifier, but when my son was given the Soothie, he was immediately calmed.

I had been given a different brand at one of my showers and I offered it to my son. He spit it out. I compared the nipples on the pacifiers and the soothie was shaped much more like my own breast. We purchased a few more of the pacifiers because they are one of those items that always get lost. The price was right under $5.00 for two pacifiers.

The packaging states that the item is BPA free; it does not contain Polycarbonate or Epoxy. While there are holes in the pacifier to attach a keeper to it, the package reminds us that it is unsafe to tie it around a child's neck.

The pacifier is unlike other pacifier in that it is all one piece of silicone instead of a hard plastic backing on a nipple. My baby can hold onto this pacifier easily without getting his fingers caught in a ring. While the packaging states that the product is for 0-3 months, my 8-month old is still enjoying his. He flipped the pacifier over when he started teething in order to chew on the back, which has a tab-style extension. This tab helped his gum prepare for the new teeth. Another advantage to a single piece is that the cleaning is very easy. There are no cracks to get dirt or crumbs stuck in, and you know these things are going to hit the floor several times!

I would definitely recommend the first years Soothie pacifiers for the many qualities I have listed. Aside from that, you can see through the pacifier to watch your baby sucking on it. That little round 'o' mouth is one of the cutest sites in the world!
