Slippery little suckers!

by Tash
(Japan)

Kyla has really taken to avocado - she just loves it! We started with a few spoonfuls, but she is so excited to eat it, that we have begun giving it to her as finger food - her first!

She has a really good pincer grip, but of course with avocado being so slippery, she was having some difficulties at first, with the avocado slipping straight out of her hand right before she got it to her mouth. But she has got this under control now, and loves munching on her avocado! She made it look so tasty that I even got jealous of her eating it, that I went and finished off the other half of the avocado myself tonight - it really was delicious (lol)

We are very excited to be in the world of finger foods now. Here in Japan, they have (commercially made) rice crackers for babies that we have been looking forward to trying soon too.

NOTE FROM EDITOR: One way to deal with the slippery avocado problem is to roll it in crushed cereal or wheat germ - it helps baby get a better grip! I'm glad Kyla sorted it out for herself though :)

Like to know about the crackers
by: Peggy

They sell those crackers here (in the UK) - I've never given them to Tom, my little boy - let us know how Kyla likes them! Tom likes prawn crackers, though - we give them to him when we have a Chinese takeaway and they just melt in his mouth lol

Try wheat germ
by: Christine (Editor)

It's wonderful to hear how much Kyla is enjoying avocado as it's SUCH a nutritious food. We suggest coating the slices in wheat germ to make them easier to pick up - plus wheat germ provides its own supply of added nutrients! Looking forward to hearing more about Kyla's progress soon!
