Our preemie is now eating big boy food

Every ounce counts

Nov 28 2007

Alex was born at 28 weeks gestational. He was in Johns Hopkins Hospital for over 3 months. However he is home and is thriving and doing great now.

He is now 6 months old and the doctor gave us the go ahead to start feeding solid foods.

I breastfed him for 4 months, then switched to formula to help pack on the weight and now we buy fresh fruits and veggies to puree our own baby food.

He has tried carrots, yellow squash, green zucchini, sweet potatoes, pears, apples, bananas and whole grain brown rice cereal. So far he loves it all. We are going to venture into the more dangerous veggies next week...peas. I have to admit, I'm afraid to try them. I'm not sure how he will react. We will also intro more varieties of squashes and string beans.

We've been having a ball. I'm curious to how it will effect his weight gain, if at all. We'll see.
