Mahek an angel
by: Mabel

Hi Rupal

Mahek is such a darling angel. She reminds me so much of little Simone who too will turn 7 months on 1st of April.

On taking advice from people about baby food, I was not to give nachni until they are one yr old. I am glad to read that you have introduced that to Mahek at 7 months, that means I too can start with Simone. Is it ok to give? Is it digestable? Have you tried giving her suji or oat poridge. If you have any easy tips on food preparation, please do let me know.

The benefits of Nachani
by: Christine (Editor)

Thanks, Rupal, for telling us about Mahek's very nutritious diet.

Many western parents will be unfamiliar with Nachani, but they may know it by another name - Finger Millet! It is a popular baby food in India, highly recommended by pediatricians, as it is a rich source of calcium.

A good way to prepare finger millet for your baby is to grind it into a powder. Stir around 7fl oz milk (breast milk or formula) into a good teaspoon of the powdered millet and warm gently, stirring continuously. This creates a smooth 'paste', to which you can add pureed fruits if you wish - apples or pears are ideal!

We'd love to read some more Khichdi and Nachani baby food recipes - so please do add them here if you have them!
