Mommy, up (please)!
Mommy, down (please)!
UP and DOWN
UP and DOWN
UP and DOWN
(And he's really heavy to boot. Whew!)

Strap this carrier around your waist, and you're ready to go. It's like a little ledge that your baby can sit on, like an extended hip. I have a lot to say about this carrier, and it's pretty unique,so I think it's worth putting most of this review in list form...

This hipseat carrier is terrific for:

* keeping my wrist/arm from hurting when holding my baby at my hip too long because he is heavy (34lbs now);
* when my baby starts walking and wants to be up and down A LOT! It's easy on and easy off;
* when I'm on the way out of the house and have to pick up my baby quickly along with my bag and keys and am usually trying to juggle all this ALONG with one hand holding my baby on my hip... and then have to put him in the carseat... ack!
* keeping my spine straight when holding my baby at my hip because I don't have to stick it out to support him;
* keeping my arms from becoming humongous "Popeye" arms so that I can continue to wear my favorite shirts without my arms ripping the seams ;-)
*holding my baby while he's crying or wants snuggles but also wants something to eat or drink. I find myself using this a lot while getting milk out of the fridge!
* dispersing the weight of your baby on your hips (where we mamas are REALLY strong!), up to 40 lbs! And it puts no strain on your neck or shoulders.

Drawbacks:

* It's probably not readily available at your nearby babystore and will probably require an internet search;
* You do have to hold your baby with one arm... it's not hands-free...but...after much experimentation, I have made it "hands-free by using it with a pouch/peanut sling (I use a Hugamonkey sling but have found that it works well also with ring-slings and will probably work with just about any other sling or wrap).

Notes: Though I use the Ergobaby Carrier for longer-term carrying, this hip carrier is ideal for those quick ups and downs, especially when you don't want to constantly be strapping'n'snapping things on and off (and especially if your baby is HEAVY!). Also, in terms of safety, it's very safe. First, it straps on with a wide strip of velcro; then, you snap it on with a safety clip. Definitely no worries about the carrier sliding down or off.

I guess this is a pretty long review, eh? But in case I'm at all vague about this... I love this hipseat!

Hip2Go looks great
by: Grace

I did check out the Hip2Go carrier, and it looks great. Functionally, it's the same as the hippychick, but it appears that Hip2Go goes a little further by having storage space in the carrier. This is actually something I wished my hippchick had, so that's just terrific. The waterbottle holder mesh and carabiner clips are also great. Overall, this looks like a better value! Thanks!

hands free
by: Liz

I want to buy a hippy chick hip seat but put off by the fact you have to still hold on to baby. I've been thinking that it can't be that difficult to make the hip seat hands free, and was thinking of using my karri-me as a wrap just to hold baby in place but I think the idea of combining it with a pouch sling is even better - especially with the constant on and off once they find their feet. Why hippy chick have not designed a shoulder strap to go with the hip seat is surprising as it seems to be the biggest complaint I have read - and the only reason I have not bought one yet. It's great to know this is possible before I invest in buying on, definately going to give it a go now.
