Asleep after a long walk
If you are like my husband and I and plan to travel a lot before your baby is 6 months old, then the bugaboo cameleon can come in really handy. By 4 months our little girl had been on 3 trips, and the cameleon came to the rescue.
If you have already traveled with a baby this age you know how much you have to bring with you. Stroller, car seat, somewhere for your little one to sleep, clothes, diapers, etc. The Cameleon helped us cut that list down. We were able to use the bassinet as a place for our daughter to sleep while traveling. This meant that our stroller was also our place for baby to sleep.
We actually ended up using the Cameleon for her to sleep in at home until she moved into her crib. This again helped us cut down the number of items we had around and gave us tons of use out of the stroller.
Also in terms of traveling, with the available travel bag, we were able to safely check our stroller and did not have to deal with another item to go through the security checkpoint.
Other pluses when traveling with the Cameleon...
If you and your spouse are different heights this stroller has a great adjustable handlebar. This has come in really handy since I am 6ft and my husband is 3 inches shorter than me.
There were also lots of features that were advertised that we were never sure we would use. Well, we found we have!
One is the ability to put the large tires in front when traveling on rough terrain. We were going to a chili cookoff at a nearby park, and everywhere we had to travel was on the grass. By just flipping the handlebar around and making the large tires in front, it was so easy to move around. It took no work at all, and our daughter was able to sleep as we traveled across the grass.
We have also used the ability to mount our Graco Saferide 32 infant car seat on the frame a lot. It has let us keep our sleeping baby asleep. This was nice, because being as tall as I am, I wanted an infant car seat that would grow with our daughter, the Graco Saferide 32 is the only infant car seat to go up to 32 lbs and 32 inches. A lot of the other strollers we were looking at would only allow you to mount their infant car seat on the stroller, which would limit us on which stroller or car seat we purchased. The Cameleon allows you to mount the graco, maxi-cosi, and peg perego infant car seats.
I also love the turn radius of this stroller. It has made being out in crowded and narrow areas so easy to maneuver.
The feature that I have been most impressed with recently has been the ability for the seat to be facing me. Our daughter has recently gotten too large for the bassinet and has moved up to the seat. It has been an easier transition for me, and hopefully her too, in the fact that she is still looking at me. She can see around, but can also find mommy or daddy at all times. This also seems to make it easier to talk to her and point things out as we go on walks.
Now, yes, the Cameleon has a high price tag, but if you were to purchase a bassinet, infant car seat stroller frame, and a stroller, this would add up. Also, it has a wonderful resale value, so once your baby has outgrown this stroller you can sell it and get a large portion of your money back. This stroller is an investment, but we found it to be well worth it.
