Baby Of The Month - Previous Winners

October 2009

At Homemade Baby Food Recipes, we enjoy hearing about how your babies are getting on with solid foods - and we love to receive photographs of them, too!

In our Baby of the Month Competition, we invite you to send in a special photograph of your little one - and we publish our favourites on the site!

The current winners - and the entry form for sending in YOUR baby's photographs - are on our Baby of the Month page - and below you can see the winners from October 2009's competition!

Congratulations to October's Baby of the Month -
this little happy little man is Lucas, 7 months, from Edmonton, AB, Canada

Lucas

Lucas's Mum, Carla, told us...

My little Lucas loves eating! He certainly loves trying new foods that I introduce to him.

I am blessed to have the time off to stay at home and give him good home cooked meals. His favorite by far is carrots! He will be full, but he will continue to have carrots if I keep feeding him! or.. as you see in this picture... he's trying to feed himself!

The funny thing is, there are some items that he doesn't like, apricots, or avocados.. he'll make funny faces when I feed him, but he keeps opening his mouth for more!! LOL

I just can't get enough of him!

This is a fantastic photo, Carla - it really sums up everything that's good about homemade baby food and you must be thrilled to watch Lucas enjoy your cooking this much! Thank you for sharing it with us!

And thank you, too, to everyone else who entered last month!

Here are some more of our favourite pictures sent in during September, along with a few words from Mum...

Animesh, 10 months - from Sandton, South Africa

Animesh
Animesh enjoys all types of food. When he was six months, I was worried about whether he would love eating home-made food. But surprisingly he likes the taste of all sweet or salty food. He never complains.

Being a boy he is quite late in some of the activities. When he was nine months, he turned on his stomach for the first time. But he started standing quite early.

All those sweet memories we have captured in the camera and enjoy them when we miss them.

Now he's started cruising and very confidently he moves from place to place, claps happily which shows he needs no support for standing independently. In a month or two he'll be one and will start to run.

He enjoys music a lot. Listening to music, he finishes his food without trouble. While sleeping, also, he listens to a song and then sleeps.

I really liked the recipes on this site - they help me to take good care of my baby.

Clover, 8 months - from Atlanta, GA, USA

Clover
This little sweetie has been so excited to try new foods! Her first "real" food was homemade oatmeal. We tried bananas shortly thereafter and she spit them out! Now bananas are one of her favorite treats. Now that she is 8 months old she wants anything she can get her hands on. Specifically HER hands - she really doesn't like the idea of someone else feeding her!

We are so glad that we have chosen the path of organic, homemade baby foods once again. Our 8 year old loves to help with her little sister. She frequently asks, "Did you do this with me?" and we can honestly answer "yes, we did". We think this is the healthiest way to raise our kids.

Baby food doesn't "grow" in jars and shouldn't be "made" in a factory; it grows from the Earth and is made from the love of a mother's (father's and sibling's) hands.

Hudson, 8 months - from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

Hudson
Hudson at the grocery store

Our little boy, Hudson, always had a good appetite. Since he was born, he loved to eat!

We started him on solids at 6 months. He loves to eat all kinds of veggies and fruits, his favourites being sweet potatoes, pears, and peaches. He also loves unsweetened apple sauce and yogurt.

Every Saturday we take him with us to the farmer's market to buy local fruits and vegetables. His dad cooks him a batch of veggies every weekend so that Hudson can eat them during the week. He also loves having oat bran with mashed bananas for breakfast.

During our recent trip to Nova Scotia, Hudson got a cute Laptop lunch box which has a few colored containters inside. Every day he goes to his day care with a lunch box full of home-made foods and snacks.

We hope he grows up liking wholesome and healthy foods!

Leyla-Maria, 10 months - from Oxford, United Kingdom

Leyla-Maria
It's very very difficult to feed my little one. She hasn't liked drinking milk from 6.5 months old. I started then with solid food.

3 days a week she eats well... the other 4 days so-so. But I'm trying all my best with different recipes from everywhere!

Well good luck to everyone with feeding their babies (and, of course, to me too....)

Mathias, 7 months - from Eden Prairie, MN, USA

Mathias
He loves solids food, he enjoys it everytime I feed him.

He especially loves rice cereal, oatmeal, red beet, sweet potatoes, pears and sweet peas.

I´m planning to give him chicken soon, so lets see how it goes...

I've found this website now and I am going to make more home-made baby food for my baby. I am excited and have enjoyed learning from this website.

Mateo, 8 months - from Rizal, Philippines

Mateo
Teo is a happy baby, he smiles to everyone.

He loves to play, makes funny faces and weird sounds.

He enjoys eating veggies, especially spinach.

Ruby and Leah, 11 months - from Saskatoon, SK, Canada

Ruby and Leah
Our little Ruby, shown on the left, is and always has been a fussy and picky eater. Her father has always been quite picky, so I suppose she comes by it honestly. She does, however, love eating food off of our plates and sharing her food with us.

Sweet Leah, on the right, is a superstar at mealtime! She is the happiest of babies and will eat anything and everything... and it shows!

To please both girls and make it easier on our family at mealtimes, I often use your website to find recipes that are suitable for all of us. Many of your recipes are easy to modify for their individual tastes and tolerance without having to create an entirely separate meal for mommy and daddy!

Sofia, 9 months - from Brooklyn, NY (USA)

Sofia
Sofia seems to be very epicurious and enjoys the healthy and balanced meals that I make for her.

She started eating solids just a little over 3 months ago, so she still has many more foods to try!

Sofia has loved a lot of recipes from your website. In particular she can't have enough of recipes that include tomato and cheddar cheese, plain yogurt, tropical fruits, avocados, sweet potatoes and organic brown rice cakes.

Zaden, 6 months - from Pen Argyl, PA, USA

Zaden
I started giving Zaden solids at 4 months old and he loves every food I've given him so far.

His favorite fruit is pears and his favorite vegetable is sweet potatoes.

He also loves banana oatmeal.
