Baby Of The Month - Previous Winners

November 2009

At Homemade Baby Food Recipes, we enjoy hearing about how your babies are getting on with solid foods - and we love to receive photographs of them, too!

In our Baby of the Month Competition, we invite you to send in a special photograph of your little one - and we publish our favourites on the site!

The current winners - and the entry form for sending in YOUR baby's photographs - are on our Baby of the Month page - and below you can see the winners from November 2009's competition!

November's Baby of the Month is beautiful little Emily Rose
from High Wycombe in England

Emily

Emily's Mum, Melanie, told us...

I panicked when Emily was 8 months old as she started to clamp her mouth shut when ever I tried to feed her with a spoon.

I began to try finger foods and to my relief realised that she wanted to assert her independence and feed herself.

I now have an enormous list of potential finger food ideas to try and I either give a tick or a cross next to them depending on whether she likes them or not and I will try the ones with a cross at another time.

...Yes, it is a real butterfly!!

Isn't this a GREAT photo? Thanks so much for sending it into us, Melanie, and congratulations to Emily!

And thank you, too, to everyone else who entered last month!

Here are some more of our favourite pictures sent in during October, along with a few words from Mum...

Alexander Lee - from Cincinnati, OH USA

Alexander
Alexander Lee started eating solids at 4 months of age when my hubby and I saw him sticking his tongue out at the dinner table and reaching for the foods we were enjoying. In addition, his milk intake was not satisfying him enough.

His first foods were the basic veggies, fruits and cereal. Starting at 5 months, I started making other foods you would generally not find in grocery stores for sale: zuchinni, blueberries, spinach, etc.

I am so happy to report that Alexander absolutely LOVES food.

My favorite is blueberries. Since homemade foods do not contain any added sugar and are purely natural, the blueberries kinda had a tangy taste. So the first time we fed him the blueberries, he made the most adorable sour face we'd ever seen!

It is pure joy watching Alexander try new foods because the reactions are priceless! Alexander is 1/2 Filipino, 1/4 Greek and 1/4 American. We hope that as he grows older, he will continue trying out new foods and we cannot wait to introduce him to some homemade Filipino/Greek foods that his Mommy and Daddy used to enjoy as children and still do!!!!

Thank you homemade-baby-food-recipes.com :)

Daisy, 8 months - from Suffolk, England

Daisy
Daisy is 8 months old now and the day we met I thought I couldn't love her any more, however, each day we share together she makes my heart grow and grow.

I am currently still nursing Daisy but introduced a homemade meal alongside her milk once a day, I found out about this on your web site as I thought I would have to stop nursing all together at 6 mths but I really didn't want to.

She couldn't be a happier more content baby, she really brings sunshine and enchantment to all that cross her path from friends to family to passers by in the park or supermarket, I am so very proud to be her Mummy.

Thank you for all your tips and advice.

India, 11 months - from Toronto, Canada

India
Favorite blanky!

India is a very happy girl (this photo actually is a couple of months old but i love it) who adores any berry she can get her hands on...blueberries, raspberries are an absolute favorite and she mushes them in her mouth saying 'num num num' the whole time..too funny!!

Also loves pasta, sweet potato, and carrots - am going to bake them in foil with olive oil today as your website outlined and see she what she thinks!

Isabella, 7 months - from Emerald Hills, CA USA

Isabella
Bella has always been on the lower end of the percentile in terms of weight, but she LOVES to eat. In fact, she eats three to four meals a day.

She loves cheese sandwiches, pasta with a ton of butter, avocado, melon, and lamb chop (cut into tiny pieces of course). I really enjoy watching her eat.

She definitely has a big appetite for such a petite baby.

James, 9 months - from Qingdao, China

James
I first introduced solid food (rice cereal) to James when he was 4 and half months old, then some purees and stage 1 foods. He usually loves them a lot - always opens his mouth for the food and makes a mess!

I didn't make food for him much as I didn't really know how to do it right. I'm so pleased to have found your web that I can do home-made foods from now on. Can't wait!

John Adam, 7 months - from West Columbia, SC, USA

John
Uncertain first bite

John Adam enjoys sweet potatoes and acorn squash the most, with avacados coming in last place.

Here is a picture of him showing displeasure at his first bite of the evening... ironically it was sweet potatoes... fortunately he cheered up once he figured out it wasn't avacados and hogged it all down after that!

Julien, 7 months - from Henderson, NV, USA

Julien
Julien has tried several solids now and likes bananas the best, by far. I know he will always eat banana and can even sneak in some other foods that he doesn't like as much if there is a little bit mixed in.

This pic is from the first time he tried carrots. He would not eat them at all! He has since gone on to eat them - sometimes :P Other days, he still refuses. But that is true of almost any food... besides banana

Mia - from Springfield Lakes, Queensland, Australia

Mia
I started giving Mia solids when she was about 5 months old and from the beginning she has LOVED them! She opens her mouth as wide as she can getting ready for the next bite and gets very crabby if you are not spooning the food into her mouth fast enough!

She has loved every food we have tried except for paw paw and just loves her multigrain cereal, natural yoghurt and pureed fruit with a splash of cinnamon for breakfast.

Thank you for your wonderful website for all of your great recipe ideas! Mia is very appreciative!!

Myra, 7 months - from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Myra
Myra loves all sweet food. We started off with Apple Stew and Banana Pudding when she turned 6 months. Now she enjoys Apple Oats Porridge, Ragi/Wheat (cereal) with Banana, Pureed fresh Figs, simply mashed Kiwi, Mashed Patatoes with butter and if she's in the mood - Rice Cereal with Papaya Puree.

Myra enjoys licking the cheese off her mommie's toast! and goes mmm..mmm..mmm when she's enjoying her food.

Nick, 8 months - from Malvern, PA, USA

Nick
Nick is loving all of the recipes that I find here - he loves sweet potatoes, pumpkin, pears, peaches, prunes - all of the sweet ones!

He will eat his greens (broccoli, asparagus and peas) but I have to mix them with a fruit!

He LOVES yogurt!
