Baby Of The Month - Previous Winners

March 2008

At Homemade Baby Food Recipes, we enjoy hearing about how your babies are getting on with solid foods - and we love to receive photographs of them, too!

In our Baby of the Month Competition, we invite you to send in a special photograph of your little one - and we publish our favourites on the site!

The current winners - and the entry form for sending in YOUR baby's photographs - are on our Baby of the Month page - and below you can see the winners from March's competition!

Mummy and Daddy have passed on their love of cooking to their little daughter - definitely a chef in the making, as you can see!
So congratulations to our "Baby Of The Month"
Royanne, 7 months, from Georgetown, Texas, USA

Royanne Royanne's Mum, Carol, told us...

On her 6 month wellness visit, the pediatrician told us to introduce solids when Royanne began to be interested in what we were eating, when she began to reach for something on our plate or watch us chew our food. As if on cue, she began this behavior immediately.

Rice cereal was our first choice, quickly followed by (babyfood style) peas, applesauce, green beans, squash and sweet potatoes. We tried fresh avocados: a direct hit! Mashed potatoes bored her. Yogurt got a sour face right away! Peaches were next and accepted..... and turns out are the only thing added to yogurt that will not get us an "ICK! face".

She likes babyfood bananas but not fresh ones. We have enjoyed watching her facial expressions at new taste experiences!

Finger foods we have tried have been rice, green beans (no strings!), and small tidbits of rice pasta.

Her face still lights up when she sees a bottle and she continues to nurse a few times a day. She has had no desire to use a starter drinking cup. She likes water but only if it has a bit of fruit juice added.

Her father does most of the cooking and insists he will make the majority of her food. The first try was peeling and cooking apples, making applesauce AND apple juice. It was a success!

Carol, thank you for sharing your beautiful photograph of Royanne - do keep us in touch with how your 'mini chef' gets on with solids in the future!

Thank you, everyone, for all the other fantastic entries we received this month!

Here are some more of our favourite pictures, along with a few words from Mum...

Matthew, 9 months - from Stewart, BC, Canada

Matthew
Matthew loves to eat!

He's slowing down on the forumula, but still gets at least 2 - 3 8oz bottles a day.

I was very leery of introducing finger food yet, and was still pureeing everything. Now that I've read your website, I know that he is more than ready for finger food as well as a coarser texture than puree.

Matthew loves avocado and sweet potato. He also enjoys moose meat! He does not like carrotts at all, but will take them when they're mixed with another veg.

I try to give him only organic fruits/veg/meat that I cook at home. We live 3 1/2 hrs away from the nearest chain grocery store that sells organic (there are a couple of small independent grocers in town that get non-organic foods shipped in), so sometimes it's hard to do that. He's very healthy and everyone says how BIG he is! Must be the healthy eating!

Thanks for the information!

Kyle, 12 months - from Dunsmuir, California, USA

Kyle
Kyle is our first baby and as this picture shows quite a surprise to us. He was born 3 months premature and weighed only 2 lbs and 1.2 ounces. His one year birthday was February 23 and marked an extraordinary year for us. He has overcome his prematurity, his need for oxygen 24 hours a day, and his low birth weight. He is now a healthy 16 pound baby boy with healthy lungs and a zest for life. Each day is a miracle as we watch him grow.

He now is able to sit up and is getting good at crawling, but prefers to stand. Being a preemie he decides to do everything completely at the wrong time for his age. He was better at standing than crawling, but then decided he enjoyed crawling. He is constantly surprising himself in the morning when he wakes at seeing himself in the mirror. He can't get over himself!

He enjoys diced bananas, fried potatoes mashed, and sweet peas, especially when they pop in his mouth. He admits that he is lazy by demanding that we spoon feed him rather than put the food in his mouth. But, he would rather try what we are eating on our plates over anything else. Do you blame him? Although, he can't hide that the best eating times are curled up with mama with his eyes closed sucking on his bottle, which he cleverly named naynay.

Kyle, although 3 months early as a surprise, is the best thing that has happened in me and my husband's life. We are better, stronger, and much more fun people because of him. God has given us this blessing of life and we thank him everyday for him. We love our little, big boy Kyle!

Skye Marie, 6 months - from Queensland, Australia

Skye
I have just started Skye on solid foods. I had no problems starting her off!

She pulled a few faces at first and still does with most new flavours but her appetite is great! She seems to really like banana.

I am yet to try her with a lot of different purees, which I will gradually introduce over the next few weeks.

I find it exciting to try her with new foods and I think she does too!

Adelka, 5 months - from Prague, Czech Republic

Adelka
Adelka is my first and only child and she is the pleasure of my life.

She is not on solids yet, she is still fully breastfed, but I am learning on what to give her as I am planning to introduce solid food to her soon.

She is a really active little girl and lately started staring at me when I eat and has a cheeky little smile on her face. I am sure if she could speak she would say, 'Mummy give me some food!!' How can I resist her :-)

I love the sound of your recipes, so when she is ready I will try them. Thank you from all mums that are not sure what to make for their little sweethearts and for all happy eating babies!
