Baby Of The Month - Previous Winners

July 2010

At Homemade Baby Food Recipes, we enjoy hearing about how your babies are getting on with solid foods - and we love to receive photographs of them, too!

In our Baby of the Month Competition, we invite you to send in a special photograph of your little one - and we publish our favourites on the site!

The current winners - and the entry form for sending in YOUR baby's photographs - are on our Baby of the Month page - and below you can see the winners from July 2010's competition!

This little cutie is July's Baby of the Month! Her name is Danielle, she's 5 months old and comes from Ajax, Ontario, Canada.
Mum Kristina told us...
Danielle
Check out my muscles!

Dani loves to try new foods. She started solids at 4.5 months (she was very eager, trying to grab at food and looking at food longingly whenever we put something to our mouths; so our doctor gave us the green light to start solids); She's a big girl too weighing in at 19lbs 7oz at 5 months old.

Thank you for this website - I stumbled on to it while trying to research other foods I could give my baby to try. I was a little unsure about making my own baby food (time, mess, etc) at first but now I don't even buy baby food. I have a variety of fruits and veggies frozen and ready to use (using the ice cube freezing method).

Dani for some reason is not a fan of bananas, but loves squash, sweet potato and pears. What a great resource for all parents! Feeding our little one has become a fun adventure (now with a map of where we're going thanks to this site).

Thanks so much, Kristina, for sharing Danielle's photograph with us :)

And thank you, too, to everyone else who entered last month!

Here are some more of our favourite pictures sent in during June...

Adrian, 7 months - from Ashburn, Ontario, Canada

Adrian
Kiss My Dirty Face!

Adrian has been eating solids for a month now and will eat anything given to him! He especially likes asparagus and green beans! I'm so relieved that he isn't a fussy eater like his parents. Mommy's a vegetarian and Daddy's a meatatarian. We found that if we act enthusiastic about the food, he happily gulps it down!

So far we've been making our own baby foods. I stumbled upon your site looking for advice on how to start feeding him solids. Thanks for the tips and great advice.

Ana Sofia

Ana-Sofia, 9 months - from Orlando, FL, USA

She loves squash and carrot soup, and her favorite breakfast is oatmeal with banana and cinnamon.

She is enjoying most foods, but dislikes certain textures, like lentils.

Ann, 10 months

Ann
Ann started on solids when she was 6 months old. She loves vegetables, especially broccoli and carrots. She's not choosy at all, but she prefers plum (too sour for her) to be mixed with her chicken.

I just learned from this website that cooking plums with the skin still on might help with the sourness. I will definitely try that.

Also, Ann loves dancing to Beyonce's song, Single Ladies ;)

Aubrey, 9 months

Aubrey
Our sweet girl just turned 9 months old!

Aubrey is a great eater! She started solids at almost 8 months old, and so far loves everything she's had! Rice cereal, green beans, peas, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, bananas, apples, and grapes (in a teether feeder). Right now Aubrey only eats at lunch and dinner, and still nurses in the morning when she gets up and when she goes to bed, and once in the afternoon. And she's doing great, and we're slowly adding in new foods and she loves it all!

Aubrey loves grapes! I know, she's a little young for whole grapes, but we have a few teething feeders because she loves to squish the grapes in them! She is such a good eater, and doesn't really have a favorite food or meal, but she definitely loves those grapes!

Aubrey is on the verge of walking! She has started to stand up in the middle of the room with no help. Soon she'll be running around the house, and we won't be able to catch her!

Danryll

Danryll, 9 months - from Cadiz City, Philippines

My son Danryll loves to eat a lot of foods but when he started eating rice, he was constipated. So I tried to search for some foods, not only easy to prepare but very nutritious as well.

He wants to crawl always and at a very young age, he already appreciates basketball.

He also loves to watch T.V. and play with his cousin.

Geoffrey - from Banglore,Karnataka,India

Geoffrey

My little Geoff is a very active baby, he communicates very well with his small screams!

Geoff does not enjoy solid food much. I introduced solid food in the 6th month only. Geoff only eats potato mash without making much fuss. He enjoys only breast milk. I just read ur information regarding baby food. I'm sure its going to help me and my Geoff also.

Thanks.

Hunter, 8 months - from Cleveland, OH, USA

Hunter

Hunter is a little chow hound! He started rice cereal at 4 months and fell in love with eating.

Hunter prefers fruits over veggies, but will compromise and eat any veggie if you mix it with yogurt or applesauce.

His favorite is the baby french toast recipe from this site. He will eat 2-3 large pieces happily!

I really enjoy preparing these wondeful and tasty recipes for him and will continue to check back for more.

Joshua

Joshua, 5 1/2 months - from Australia

Hello! My name is Joshua and I am 5 ½ months old. I have just recently started on 'solids'. I started a little early coz I tried to grab Mummy’s dinner off her plate and she thought it might be time to start some big boy food.

So far, I have had butternut pumpkin/squash, apple, carrot and avocado. Avocado is the best - I just love it and so does Mummy. Mummy says that she read on your website that is extra good for me because it helps me get the most nutrients out of the other fruit and vegies. I have 1 day to go until I can have something else (Mummy is following the 4 day rule) and I am thinking banana next!

Jude

Jude, 12 months - from Saskatchewan, Canada

Jude at 7 months

Jude has been loving homemade solid food for 5 months now.

His favourites are salmon, chicken, sweet potatoes, bananas, cauliflower and cheese.

Looking forward to having him try more recipies from your website. Thank you for all the information!

Kashvi

Kashvi, 9 months - from Singapore

I love oranges and watermelon too!

She loved Bananas and oats, banana was her all time favourite. She wouldnt let anyone eat them..always did the 'uuu...' hummming if it wasnt offered to her!

She began with solids on the day she completed 6 months! We offered her orange juice and she gulped it down quickly:-)

Kashvi loves playing pee-ka-boo at 12 am in the night :( Balls are her all time favourite along with her truck toy.

Landon

Landon, 7 months - from Vernon, BC

Landon has been eating solids since he was 4 and a half months, his favorite food seems to switch every week, but ever since he got his two bottom teeth he doesn't seem to want any plain veggies.

That's where your site has helped me out a lot with new recipes.

Liam, 19 months - from Johannesburg South Africa

Liam
At the moment we struggle with eating. Liam has problems with his tonsils and so we try all kinds of solids and see how it goes. He is quite fond of Noodles, Mash and soup.

Liam enjoys having a bath.

At the moment we are struggling with food. Liam has accute Tonsilitis and struggles with eating. But he loves the little pizza's I make him with your roasted tomato relish recipe. And of course your chickpea and avocado recipe. He also loves soup, mash potatoes and noodles. Its always lovely to read your ezine with all the different recipies. Liam and I always try them out. You do get bored with the same old foods.

Macy, 9 months - from Chicago, IL, USA

Macy
Macy and her blocks

Macy has always been a great eater. She took both breast milk and formula from day one and never had any issues going back and forth between the two.

Once we started her on baby food, there weren't any flavors she didn't like. She's been eating "table food" for about 2 months now and she loves all of that too - her favorites are watermelon and avocados. Recently, she started feeding herself cheerios. We're so proud of our girl!

Miles

Miles - from Medford, MA

Like his mother, Miles is a big fan of mac n' cheese. The cream cheese recipe here is his all time favorite and we're going to try many, many more.

As our CSA share arrive, I'll be visiting this site often for inspiration on what to make -for Miles and for his parents! Yum!

Ryan, 8 months - from South Africa, KZN

Ryan
My favorite time of day!!!

Ryan is not really a fussy eater, but he is getting bored with the normal commercial purity foods. He loves sweet potato, and really dislikes carrots!!!

I tried cooking for him but had no idea about the combinations that are available to make meals more interesting, since I discovered this site, he has been enjoying his meal times even more, as they are homemade and very tasty!

Thank you, I now have the secret to making dinner time more exciting......and he now eats his carrots with no problem!

Sarah, 13 months - from Bahrain

Sarah
Sarah is God's most precious gift to us...our bundle of joy!

She's been a very easy baby..always smiling and playful. She mostly cries only if she has gas trouble. Since both of us work, we really miss her a lot during the daytime and look forward to spending time with her in he evenings.

She's totally against formula milk. We tried different brands and she was happy with none. As soon as she turned 1, we tested whole milk (cow's milk) and she seems to be taking that well.

We give her rice, dals, vegetables, fruits, chicken, fish etc. She likes them more than any baby food. Sarah has only been on natural food. In the baby food category, she only likes Baby rusks along with her milk. She still needs mother's milk to go to sleep at night.

I thanks this website for all the wonderful recipes and Sarah is a big fan of them too. Thanks to all.

Siddharth

Siddharth, 9 months - from Hyderabad, AP, India

Innocent Look

Siddharth is now having 3 solid meals a day. He enjoys curd and mango the most. He also likes apple and pear.

We feed him a good variety of fruits, vegetables and pulses.
