Meet Our Baby of the Month for February 2010 -
this gorgeous young man is little Gavin, 11 months, from Queen Creek, AZ, USA

Gavin

Gavin's Mum, Victoria, told us...

Gavin is such a great eater; however, whenever something new is introduced he gives the silliest faces. Once he realizes that he loves it, the mouth opens wide and he wants more!

Once he discovered that those hands can put food (along with everything else) into his mouth, he will eat anything. Apples, avocados, chicken and CHEESE are a few of his favorites.

I am so thankful for your website. Because of it, I was able to make all of Gavin's food since we started on solid foods. I am a busy teacher and even busier mom, but it makes me feel so good to be able to cook healthy, easy foods for him everyday. Thank you for all of the great ideas.

You're very welcome Victoria, that's fantastic to hear. And thank YOU for sending in this lovely photo - Gavin looks like a little angel!

And thank you, too, to everyone else who entered last month!

Here are some more of our favourite pictures sent in during January, along with a few words from Mum...

Aston, 7 months - from Cabot Ar U.S.A.

Aston
Aston is just starting to crawl. He loves all food and meal times are the best part of his day. He enjoys playing with his toys and loves our kitty cats.

He sits up by himself and has said mama, daddy, hi and uh-oh. He also loves bath time and outside.

He is a very happy baby and does not really dislike anything.

Calyssa

Calyssa, 7 months - from Las Vegas, NV, USA

Smiling because she is out shopping!

Loves eating solids! She is a vegan and loves tofu and soy yogurt. Loves all fruits and vegetables!

Her most favorite thing to do is to go shopping and find deals- loves clearance items and coupons!

Carter, 6.5 months - from Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada

Carter
Carter has been on cereal (oats and barley) for about 2 months now. He loves it and will generally eat it mixed with anything.. of course his favorite is pears, apples and banana. After a few meals of cereal mixed with the veggie of the day (peas, carrots, butternut squash, or green beans so far) he became used to the taste and now enjoys them on their own.

The newest introduction is chicken. So far that has only recieved an "I don't think so", but I plan to keep trying. It usually takes a few tries!!

Cash, 7 months - from The Dalles, OR USA

Cash
Trying out a swing in between our family photo shoot for our Christmas Card.

Cash Man loves his food! He got his first try at Sweet taters on Thanksgiving and loved them! Anytime someone sees the amount of food that we make for him, they dont believe he will eat it all, but as usual, within a few minutes he has eaten every last drop and looking for more!!!!

Can't wait to add more foods to his menu!

Chloe, 8 months - from Al Ain United Arab Emirates

Chloe
Chloe loves her food, I started her on solids at 6 months and she eats everything I give her!

Mashed banana is a favourite and so is parsnip, sweet potato, swede and carrot all together.

She's such a happy baby and is so nosy - she loves people watching and doesn't miss a thing!

Daniel, 8 months - from Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Daniel

We started introducing solid foods to Daniel when he was 4 and a half months old. His favorites were mashed banana and sweet potato. I am breastfeeding him and because I am a little worried that he is not getting enough milk from me, I try to mix formula in his diet (dessert recipes). Thanks to great recipes found in this website. They are great and he loves them a lot.

He now has 4 teeth and is starting to feed himself. He is crawling and moving a lot and showing me signs that he is ready to walk.

He loves the mini whole grains puffs. This picture shows how excited he gets when mommy puts these little puffs on his plate.

Emma, 12 months - from London, UK

Emma
YUM, that was delicious!!

Emma loves eating. As long as she has something to nibble on shes happy :o) wether its a fresh piece of bread walking round the supermarket, cucumber sticks dunked in humous, cookies (the healthy, wholemeal kind!) or a piece of broccoli...It makes life so much easier knowing she'll eat whatever I have cooked for her, or even the odd Hipp jar if neccesary. Recently she's discovered how yummy smoked fish or sardines in tomato sauce mashed up with fresh veggies or mash potato are. Even mummy likes eating her food and is getting a taste for saltless food, so much healthier!

In the photo Emma is about 7 months old and has enjoyed a lovely meal of spagetthi bolognese..mmm...she especially enjoyed rubbing it round her face, which for the rest of the day was bright orange. What a giggle we had :o))

I have just discovered homemade-baby-food-recipies.com and i thinks its fantastic, with lots of lovely food ideas as well as very handy nutritional information - wish I had found you earlier.

Ethan, 11 months - from Nashville, TN, United States

Ethan
Ethan LOVES his peaches!

My son, Ethan, is a wonderful eater. I cannot think of anything he dislikes...but he has many favorites! His MOST favorite food is peaches...And he is shown here eating some. He has 6 teeth now so he is enjoying feeding himself and learning to chew.

I have been feeding Ethan fresh, homemade babyfood since he was 6 months old. And this site has been such a blessing as i had no idea how to go about it! I have no doubt that being able to introduce him to the tastes of fresh food has influenced the fact that he is a FANTASTIC eater. So, Thank You so much for the recipes and all the information!

Jacob, 6 months - from Springfield, VA USA

Jacob
We waited until Jacob was 6 months old before introducing solids.

He wasn't too sure at first but now he loves his mealtimes. His favorites so far are butternut squash and sweet potatoes.

I can't wait to try all the yummy recipes on this website. Thanks for putting them together!

Keziah, 11 months - from Montreal Quebec Canada

Keziah
Keziah pretty much likes everything she tries, one of her favorites being spaghetti!!! She loves to feed her self and prefers that over the pureed food, so we do a little of both.

We are blessed with an excellent eater who loves to try new things. She always points at our plates to taste whatever she sees :)

This website has been so helpful over the past few months, thank you!

Lhianne, 7 months - from Denmark

Llhianne
I was really having trouble working out how to give my first baby very good and nutritious food. I've had experience taking care of babies, but giving food to them ... that was a long time ago. So I was totally stuck until I decided to browse the internet and came across this website. It was really a big help! Thank you!

For almost five months Lhianne was only breast fed, but now she eats purees amazingly well. She likes carrots and a combination of pears very much during dinner time and some other veggies like parsnips, carrots and squash, especially when they are mashed all together. So I was amazed when I started giving her oats for breakfast, she really loved it when mashed with pears or carrots!

Now I'm looking forward to giving her rice meal! I wonder how will she appreciate it, i just hope it will not be the same as when I first gave her mashed beet root with monggo beans(green hard small beans) because she really hated it! I have never given it to her since!!!

I will keep reading about how to give my child the best and healthy meals!!!

Lucy, 7 months - from Charlestown, IN, USA

Lucy
More please!

Lucy loves sweet potatoes. She hates peas and the first time we offered them, she screamed as though we were offering poison! She liked cereal for about three days before screaming at that too.

So, this weekend we're going to try apple puree. We love watching her little face as she realizes she's going to get some orange food - it's adorable!

Madelyn, 9 months - from New Jersey, USA

Madelyn
Madelyn is loving solid foods!

I started her with cereal and then with root vegetables around the beginning of fall. She prefers apples to avocado, pears to pumpkin. But she is a great sport when it comes to trying new things, and the faces are priceless!!!

I am hopeful that her will to "try" is long-lasting!

Madison, 8 months - from Alliston, Ontario, Canada

Madison
Madison is a milk monster - she loves to drink is becoming a huge fan of a variety of vegetables, fruit and meat. Besides milk, Madisons favourite food is Cheerios!

Her favourite veggies so far are sweet potates and butternut squash. She also loves to use her two teeth to enjoy baby cookies on occasion!

If we are ever struggling to get her to eat, homemade apple sauce can create magic and get her to eat just about anything!

Max, 9 months - from Chandler, AZ, USA

Max
Max in the sink

The only thing Max loves more than the camera is food!

He eats fruit and oatmeal for breakfast and veggies and rice for dinner with lots of finger foods in between!

Thanks for all the recipes and ideas! :)

Sajin, 9 months - from Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada

Sajin

We started Sajin on solids at 6 months.

At first Sajin was somewhat of a picky eater but the recipes on your website have kept me inspired and he is now eating all kinds of things!

Some of his favourites are yogurt, apples, cheese, chickpeas, sweetpotatoes and avocado.

Thanks for the great ideas!
