These baby food recipes use beef, pork or lamb. Suitable for babies from 7/8 months, they are nutritious, simple to prepare and perfect for a "growing" appetite!
NOTE: Remember to apply the
four day rule
as you introduce each new food to your baby.
These recipes can be mashed or pureed, depending on your baby's age and ability to handle soft lumps - to puree the foods, you can push them through a sieve or use a
hand blender,baby food processor
or
food mill/grinder.
NOTE FOR OUR INTERNATIONAL VISITORS: British vegetable names are used in these recipes - if these are not familiar to you, the following translations may be helpful!
courgette = zucchini
aubergine = egg-plant
swede = rutabaga
spring onions = scallions or green onions
Meat Baby Food Recipes - Lamb With Apple
8oz minced lamb 1 cooking apple, grated finely 4fl oz apple juice 1 courgette, chopped 1 carrot, peeled and sliced pinch cinnamon powder pinch dried tarragon
In a saucepan, cook the lamb in its own fat until cooked through. Drain. Add the apple, courgette, carrot and apple juice. Stir well, then cover and simmer for 15 mins. Add the cinnamon and tarragon, stir and simmer for a further 5 mins. Mash or puree as necessary.
Meat Baby Food Recipes - Pork With Apple
6oz lean pork 6oz swede, peeled and cubed 1/4 apple, peeled and cubed 6oz white potatoes, peeled and cubed 1/4 onion, chopped (optional) 2fl oz water
Trim the pork, then cube. Put the pork and the rest of the ingredients into a saucepan and simmer until well cooked. This recipe purees well in a blender and the sweetness of the apple appeals particularly to babies!
Meat Baby Food Recipes - Beef Stew
8oz cubed stewing beef 2oz flour 4fl oz
homemade beef stock 3oz tomatoes, peeled and chopped 1 carrot, peeled and sliced 1/2 small onion, sliced 2oz mushrooms, sliced pinch dried rosemary, crushed
Pre-heat oven to 500 deg F, 260 deg C. Toss the beef with the flour. Place beef on a baking sheet and bake until lightly browned (about 10 minutes). In a saucepan, mix the beef stock, vegetables and rosemary and bring to a boil. Lower the oven temperature to 300 deg F, 150 deg C. Put the browned beef into a casserole dish and pour in the stock and vegetables. Cover and bake in the oven for about 2 hours, until the beef is tender. Mash or puree as necessary.
Meat Baby Food Recipes - Spaghetti With Beef And Vegetable Sauce
8oz lean minced beef 1/2 small onion, sliced 1/2 tin/can tomatoes 2oz tomato puree 1 courgette, sliced 1/2 red pepper, chopped 2 tsp olive oil 1/4 tsp oregano 4oz dried spaghetti, or use fresh if available
In a saucepan, saute the onion in the olive oil until lightly browned. Add the tomatoes and tomato puree and stir well. Stir in the courgette, red pepper and the oregano and simmer for a few minutes. Add the minced beef, cover and simmer for about 30 mins. Meanwhile, prepare the spaghetti. Finally, pour the meat sauce over the spaghetti and chop well - this recipe is best for babies capable of chewing soft lumps.
8oz lean pork shoulder, boneless 1 small onion, chopped 1/4 tsp dried rosemary, crushed 3fl oz water 4oz mushrooms, sliced 2 carrots, peeled and sliced 1/2 green pepper, chopped 2fl oz tomato sauce 4 ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped 1tsp olive oil
Trim the pork and cut into cubes. Fry the pork in the olive oil for a few minutes, stirring often, until browned. Add the onion, tomatoes, rosemary and water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour, until pork is tender. Add the remaining ingredients, cover and simmer for a further 30 minutes, until the vegetables are tender. Mash or puree as necessary.
Pre-heat oven to 350 deg F, 180 deg C. Wrap all ingredients tightly in foil and seal. Bake for about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 hours. Mash or puree as necessary (you may need to add a little stock to achieve a smooth puree).

Meat Baby Food Recipes - Easy Microwaved Shepherd's Pie
2tsp olive oil 8oz cooked lamb, cubed 8oz prepared mashed potato 1 medium tomato, peeled and sliced 1/4 onion, thinly sliced 1tsp butter 1tbsp flour 3fl oz
homemade chicken stock 3fl oz water
In a casserole dish, place the olive oil, onion and tomatoes and heat in a microwave until tender. In a small bowl, melt the butter, then blend in the flour and stock. Heat in the microwave for 3 minutes, until thickened. Stir until smooth. Add this sauce and the cooked lamb to the onion and tomato mixture. Stir well. Heat, covered, in the microwave until heated through (about 5-7 minutes). Top with the mashed potatoes and heat uncovered for a further 3-5 minutes. This recipe is best suited to babies capable of chewing soft lumps.
