April 7, 2008 21:20 - How Much Baby Food Can I Take on an Airplane?
Just how much baby food, breast milk and formula are you allowed to carry in your hand luggage these days?
If you're planning to fly with your baby any time soon, then the answer to this question is probably EXTREMELY important to you. Yet, with all the new regulations about carrying liquids and gels into the cabin of an airplane (or aeroplane, depending on where you're reading this!), there's an awful lot of mis-information floating about. There are also many people who will delight in telling you all about 'someone they know' who had all their baby milk confiscated at security, or that you are only allowed to bring along a few ounces.
Can these nightmare stories be true?
Don't worry - your baby will not need to survive a 10 hour flight with no food and just a few ounces of milk - and we explain the latest procedures for packing these items in your hand luggage on our new page - Flying With Baby Food and Milk.

April 8, 2008 09:25 - Looking After Your Baby's Teeth
Did you know that your baby's dental care should begin even BEFORE his first teeth emerge from his gums?
Dentists actually recommend using a piece of damp gauze - or even a soft washcloth - to remove milk residue from baby's gums from birth. Whilst this might seem early, establishing a dental routine as soon as possible helps prevent tooth-brushing battles as your baby grows. And the importance of caring for baby teeth shouldn't be overlooked - they may fall out, but healthy milk teeth set the stage for healthy permanent teeth later on.
Yet worrying statistics show that - although the prevalence of dental decay in children, teens and adults has decreased - tooth decay in the milk teeth of children from 2-5 years of age has INcreased.
If your baby doesn't enjoy having his teeth brushed and you dread trying to do them, something that might make life easier is the
Gentle Vibrations Toothbrush.
All of our children enjoy using vibrating toothbrushes - and they can put a baby into a positively trance-like, open-mouthed state of bliss! The
Gentle Vibrations Toothbrush takes your little one from infancy to toddlerhood, with an infant gum stimulator/rubber bristled toothbrush for the early days - and two soft toddler brushes for later on.
Read more in our guide to Brushing Baby's Teeth, which inlcudes lots of handy tips, information about visiting the dentist and advice about the use of fluoride.

If you have older children at home, then there are three new recalls of toys that you need to be aware of.
The first involves Fake 'Hillbilly' teeth, which are high in lead. Considering that these are designed to be placed in the mouth, this recall is particularly worrying.
The second recall is for Flower Writers, Christmas Writers, Easter Writers and Spooky Writers Seasonal Writing Pens, all of which have surface paints high in lead.
Finally, Interchange Robot Toys are being recalled because - you've guessed it - they contain excessive amounts of lead. More details for the recall of these robots, which were sold at Dollar stores, can be found here.
