December 24, 2007 15:54 - We Wish You A Merry Christmas!

Things will be a little quiet around here as we make the most of the Christmas Holidays with our children - although we will, of course, keep you updated with any important news or recalls that may arise!

For many of you, this will be your baby's very first Christmas, so the holiday season will be doubly joyous this year! We found a beautiful poem today that really sums up just how special it is to share Christmas with your little one for the very first time... we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Baby's First Christmas
A Christmas Poem by Alice E. Chase

You have to hold him up to see
The angel on the Christmas tree.
And even though he's still too small
To know the meaning of it all
You watch his eyes reflect the glow
Of colored lights that come and go
And feel him quiver with delight
At every new and wondrous sight.
There's Santa with his jolly face
Beaming from the fireplace.
And from the stocking hanging there
Peeks a cuddly teddy bear.
Bright ornaments and candy canes --
Musical toy and wooden trains --
There's just no end to the delights
Spread out for him this night of nights!
He points and grins from ear to ear
And then he yawns - his bedtime's near!
Dad gives him a kiss and you tuck him away
To rest up for the fun of his first Christmas Day!

December 27, 2007 14:29 - Tempting Turkey Loaf

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day - it's hard to believe the day has gone already! But even though the Christmas meal may be over, you probably have plenty of leftovers - so today we help you put them to good use with this nice and easy recipe for a turkey loaf!

This recipe is suitable for babies of at least 7 months of age who have already been introduced to all the ingredients. You can serve the loaf mashed with some gravy, or even sliced as a finger food - if you choose to serve gravy, then you can easily make your own by combining arrowroot with homemade chicken stock (you need to use 1tbsp arrowroot per 8 fl oz stock). Just pour the stock into a saucepan, add the arrowroot and heat, stirring constantly.

Here's what you'll need to make the turkey loaf...

1 1/2 lb (3 cups) cooked turkey, diced
8oz (1 cup) fresh whole wheat breadcrumbs
4oz (1/2 cup) celery, chopped finely
2oz (1/4 cup) fresh parsley, chopped
2oz (1/4 cup) green bell pepper
6 fl oz (3/4 cup) homemade chicken stock
1 1/2 tbsp oil combined with 1tsp baking powder
1tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
2tsp crushed garlic

Preheat the oven to 325 deg F, 160 deg C.
Next, combine all the ingredients thoroughly in a bowl, then press into a non-stick loaf pan.
Bake for 45 mins, then serve warm.

We have lots more ideas for using up your leftovers on on our chicken baby food recipes page - you can easily use turkey in all the recipes calling for cooked chicken!

December 28, 2007 11:33 - Tot Tower Blocks Recalled by eeBoo Corp (US)

Tot Tower Blocks are being recalled by eeBoo Corp. because they may pose a choking hazard to children.

The sets (pictured below) were sold for around $20 from January 2003 through September 2007. The blocks have a plastic covering that can detach and the company has received two reports of children mouthing the detached plastic, although - thankfully - there have been no injuries.

The blocks were sold in sets of ten, with sizes ranging from 6 x 6 inches to 1.5 x 1.5 inches. They have a variety of images and themes and you can find the words 'Tot Towers' and 'eeBoo Corporation' printed on the packaging.

If you have these blocks at home, please take them away from your children (which may not be easy if these were given as a Christmas gift) and return them to the store you bought them from for a full refund. Alternatively, you can contact eeBoo Corp. at (800) 791-5619 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit their website, to receive a replacement toy.

December 29, 2007 11:21 - Our Top Ten Blog Posts of 2007

As the year draws to a close, we've been looking back over the posts we made to our blog during 2007. So we decided to bring together ten of our favourites which contain some useful tips that may not appear elsewhere on our site!

Don't forget to send us YOUR favourite tips, ideas and recipes - we're always happy to include contributions from our visitors... and we know that other parents find them very valuable. You can get in touch with us at any time using our simple contact form - we will always reply promptly to any messages we receive!

So let's get started with our favourite posts...

  1. We all know how important it is to check the labels of any commercially prepared food we give to our little ones. But manufacturers don't always make it easy for us - particularly when they use a variety of names for that ingredient we all try to avoid... sugar! This post lists the alternative names for sugar, helping you make good choices for your baby.

  2. There's nothing cuter than chubby cheeks and dimpled thighs - but it IS important that the weight your baby gains is healthy and not excessive. So read through our list of Tips To Avoid Unhealthy Weight Gain In Your Baby

  3. Did you know that refined carbohydrates have a similar effect to sugar on our babies' bodies? Learn more here about the The Dangers of Refined Carbohydrates

  4. This post answers a question we are commonly asked - Does the First Food For Baby Have To Be Baby Rice?

  5. Are you curious about just what babies eat in other countries and cultures? Then visit our post about Food For Tots Around The World

  6. In June this year, Gill Rapley suggested that babies should not be fed pureed food and should be allowed to feed themselves pieces of solid food. Here's our response - Is It Bad To Puree Your Baby's Food?

  7. Keeping your baby busy whilst travelling is not always an easy task! So here's a great tip from one of our UK visitors to help you keep him occupied!

  8. A visitor wrote to us in September about the difficulties she was experiencing in feeding her little girl. We posted our reply to her on our blog, as many other parents will identify with her problem... so please visit My Baby Won't Eat! to read our advice.

  9. Did you notice a change in your baby's feeding behaviour once he took his first steps - or would you like to be prepared for any changes that MAY occur? Then read our post about Mobility and Mealtimes!

  10. And finally - we've had quite a few messages on the subject, so here we answer the question What Can I Do With Cooked, Leftover Oatmeal?
That's it for now - you can look forward to lots more useful tips, new articles - and, of course, yummy recipes - in 2008!
