December 17, 2007 14:54 - Get Your Baby's Passport Photos Online
We love finding sites that are truly useful for busy parents - and then telling you all about them here!
We've just come across a site called www.paspic.com which provides a unique service to take the hassle out of getting a passport photograph for your baby. There are so many rules regarding children's photos that it can be difficult as a parent to get things just right.
Paspic enables you to take a digital photograph of your baby at home (there's even a video tutorial to show you how) and then upload it to their site to order a set of four passport photos.
The company will then post your photos to you within 1-2 days - and this service is available in the US, UK and EU.
Aside from the convenience, Paspic's automated platform will advise you whether or not your pictures comply with US, UK, AU and EU Passport Services Offices regulations. If not, then you are notified and asked to supply a new photograph.
This service isn't just for baby photographs, of course - any family member can send in photographs and have their passport pictures delivered to them promptly - not to mention conveniently!
We think this is a great idea - and will make life a lot easier for families 'on the go'!
Before you head off on your travels with your baby, don't forget to visit our Travelling With Baby section for lots of handy tips and advice!

December 19, 2007 15:30 - Don't Put Baby On An Air Mattress to Sleep
The Consumer Product Safety Commission in the US released a warning to parents this week about putting babies on air mattresses to sleep. It advises that air mattresses, water beds and adult beds are just too soft for use by infants. Tragically, the commission is aware of 16 deaths that occurred when babies were placed on air mattresses to sleep. 11 suffocated in a face-down position and 5 suffocated after falling into gaps between the mattress and frame/wall, or nearby furniture.
And if you're planning to travel with your little one this Christmas and haven't yet thought about the sleeping arrangements for him, take a look at our travel cots page, where we've listed our favourite portable sleping solutions.

December 21, 2007 12:09 - Freezing Baked Meals
Sometimes you may need to freeze baked meals - like lasagna - for your baby... particularly if you like to cook in bulk ahead of time. But if you're short of baking dishes, then it can limit how many meals you can freeze at one time.
So here's a tip to free-up your baking dishes AND a little freezer space at the same time!
Before you start cooking, line your baking dish with aluminium foil - use a piece larger than the dish, so that some is handing over the sides and the ends.
Next, prepare and bake your recipe as usual. Once the meal is cooked, allow it to cool. Rather than letting it sit for too long at room temperature, speed up the cooling process by sitting it in a larger pan of cold water.
Once the meal is cool enough, freeze it in the baking dish. As soon as the food is frozen, carefully lift it from the pan using the foil - use the excess foil to wrap and seal it. Hey presto - your baking dish is ready for use once again!
And one more tip for today - if you're preparing a pasta dish for freezing, we recommend slightly undercooking it. Fully cooked pasta tends to go a little mushy when thawed and reheated!

December 21, 2007 17:47 - Teething Ring Recall (US)
Around 1,000 Sterling Silver Teething Rings are being recalled by the Empire Silver Company because they pose a choking hazard to babies.
The teething rings, which were sold for between $50 and $120 at independent jewelry, gift, speciality and department stores throughout November 2007, feature a silver ball that holds the ring in place. This ring can crack, releasing the beads inside.
The teething rings were sold in three styles - single ring with ball, single ring with heart and ball, and three rings with ball. There is a ball soldered between the rings and small beads inside that make a rattling sound.
If your baby is using one of these teething rings, please take it away and return it to the store you bought it from for either a full refund or a replacement item.
If you need more details, please contact the Empire Silver Company at (800) 255-9475 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit their website.

December 22, 2007 09:40 - Recall of 'Super Magnet' Toys (US)
'Super Magnets', which were sold at Dollar and gift stores from September 2005 through November 2007 for about $1, are being recalled because the magnet on the bottom of the small toy panda can come off. If a child swallows more than one magnet, they can be attracted to each other - and this can cause potentially fatal intestinal perforations or blockages. Loose magnets, of course, also pose a choking hazard.
The toys are about 1/2 inch in height and are painted and shaped to look like pandas. Magnets are attached to the bottom of the toys. The MTC logo and 'Super Magnets' are printed on the front of the packaging and there are eight toys in each package.
If your children have these toys, please take them away and return them to the store you bought them from for a full refund.
If you have any questions, please contact MTC at (800) 388-7228 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or e-mail them at mtcmans@aol.com.
