November 19, 2007 15:02 - Easy Peasy Lentil and Veggie Puree
Here's a wonderfully simple recipe for a nutritious meal for baby, using red lentils and fresh veggies. You can give this to your little one from 6 months of age - but bear in mind that lentils cause gas/wind in some babies. If your baby is prone to digestive discomfort, then you may prefer to save this recipe until later in his first year!
Here's what you'll need...
1 tbsp red lentils 1 medium carrot, peeled and cubed 2oz (1/4 cup) sweet potato, peeled and cubed 2oz (1/4 cup) cauliflower, chopped around 6 fl oz (3/4 cup) milk - (you can use breast milk or formula)
Check the lentils for any small stones, then rinse them thoroughly under running water. Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan, then bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and cover, then simmer for around 25 mins until the vegetables are tender and the lentils are cooked. If the mixture dries out during the cooking process, add a little more milk. Puree until nice and smooth, cool and serve!
This dish freezes well, but please do NOT freeze the leftovers if you used previously frozen breast milk in the recipe.

November 20, 2007 14:42 - Recall of Zoggs Trainer Seats (Australia)
Zoggs Trainer Seats are being recalled because a fault in the products makes them unsafe.
Zoggs seats are water flotation devices which have an outer inflatable ring, an inner inflatable ring and a plastic seat connected to the inner ring. The child is supported in the water by these two rings when sitting on the seat. The problem is that some items have a faulty plastic weld, which could run or tear when the child is sitting in the seat - so the risk is that a child could slip through the seat and into the water.
The products involved are
Zoggs Trainer Seat - Age 3 to 12 months. Product Code 302212
Zoggs Trainer Seat - Age 12 to 18 months. Product Code 302213.
You can find the product code as part of the barcode, on the bottom right corner of the rear panel of the product’s packaging.
Only some of the following batch numbers are affected
Batch number 301J
Batch number 302D
Batch number 112L
You can find the batch number both on the product and also on the bottom panel of the product packaging.
These batches have been on sale since July 2006 at various major retailers, sports stores and some aquatic centres.
If you have one of these seats, please return it directly to
Zoggs Australia Reply Paid 4012 Milperra DC NSW, 1891
Alternatively, you can contact Zoggs Australia directly on 02 9453 2000 to arrange to return the product.
Please do not return the product to retail stores.

November 20, 2007 14:55 - Safety Tips For Buying Toys
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has just released a guide to help you choose safe toys for your children this Christmas.
There have been so many recalled toys recently that parents are understandably worried about just what to put under the Christmas tree this year. According to the guide, the Chinese government has agreed to inspect toys prior to exporting them, to prevent lead painted toys and other unsafe toys from being sent to the U.S. in the future.
The guide also includes some tips about other dangerous items, such as projectile toys and magnets.

November 21, 2007 14:50 - Homemade Croutons For Baby
Our babies have always loved homemade soup - it's nutritious and easily digestible, thanks to the cooking process that breaks down the ingredients. It's a great way to give your baby vegetables that he may otherwise refuse - and is also a soothing food if he's a little under the weather.
Something our children really enjoy as an accompaniment to their soups are homemade croutons. Ready made croutons are often high in salt and too hard in texture for babies to enjoy. But our homemade croutons have a very light texture - and we make them far bigger than usual so that they can be dipped into soup as a finger food, rather than poured straight into the bowl.
Homemade croutons are very easy to make - when you make a batch, you can cut some smaller, 'regular' sized ones for the adults, and cook them separately with a little extra salt if you prefer.
Here's what you'll need
A few slices of whole wheat (wholemeal) bread a little olive oil freshly ground black pepper (optional)
First, pre-heat your oven to just 275 deg F (135 deg C). Next, remove the crusts from the bread with a sharp knife and cut the remaining bread into fingers, or four squares (remember, you can divide these squares further and make smaller croutons if you prefer). Drizzle the bread with olive oil and sprinkle with the black pepper, then place on a baking sheet. Put the baking sheet in the oven and cook the croutons for about 10-15 mins, tossing from time to time, until lightly golden all over. Don't allow them to become too dark in colour, as they will also become harder.
And that's all there is to it! These homemade croutons will have a light, crispy texture - perfect for babies just getting to grips with biting and chewing!

November 23, 2007 16:43 - Recall of Flashing Pacifiers (US)
Flashing Pacifiers or 2-in-1 Flashing Pacifiers with Whistle Necklaces are being recalled By Sailing (U.S.) International Corp because they pose a choking hazard.
The pacifiers (pictured below) were sold at various stores across the US for around $5 per dozen, during June 2007.
The pacifier necklace is multicoloured and 28 inches long and the plastic pacifier measures 3 inches. The handle of the pacifier operates as the "on/off" button for the flashing light on the pacifiers. On the packaging of the pacifiers is printed "Flashing Pacifier" or "2-in-1 Flashing Pacifier with Whistle Necklace".
These products are hazardous because the nipple can come away from the base.
