August 13, 2007 08:09 - Simple Veggie Risotto

Here's an interesting recipe to start the week - a tasty vegetable risotto! Suitable for babies from around 7 months, this dish is quite textured at the end of the cooking time and is ideal for babies who are able to enjoy soft lumps.

You will need

2oz Arborio (risotto) rice
1tsp butter
homemade vegetable stock
1/2 small courgette (zucchini), diced very finely
2oz finely grated carrot
1oz grated Parmesan

How to make it

Melt the butter in a frying pan (skillet) and add the risotto rice, stirring well to make sure that the butter coats the grains.
Cover the rice with the vegetable stock and stir well. Simmer, stirring constantly, until the rice has absorbed all the stock, then add some more and continue to simmer for 15 mins, adding more stock as necessary.
Add the diced courgette and finely grated carrot, stir well and cook for 5 minutes more.
Top with the Parmesan and - hey presto - dinner is served!

August 14, 2007 18:00 - Various Mattel Toys Recalled Due To Magnet Hazards

Loose magnets in toys pose a huge hazard for very young children. If a child swallows more than one magnet, the the magnets can attract each other, causing potentially fatal intestinal perforations.

There have been lots of recalls this year involving magnetic toys - and today four more toys are being recalled due to this danger.

If you have any of the toys listed below, please click on the link which will take you to the full page on the CPSC website for more information.

Batman, One Piece Magnetic Action Sets
Barbie and Tanner Magnetic Toys
Doggie Day Care Magnetic Toys
Polly Pocket Play Sets

Please remember to pass these details on to any other parents you know who may have these toys at home.

August 15, 2007 14:08 - Recall of "Sarge" Die Cast Toy Cars

Mattel is recalling "Sarge" Die Cast Toy Cars because surface paints on the toys may contain unsafe amounts of lead.

The cars involved (pictured below) were sold across the US from May 2007 through August 2007 for between $7 and $20. They were available individually or in sets.

The 2 1/2 in toys resemble military jeeps and have the markings "7EA" and "China" on the bottom. Cars sold individually may have the product number M1253 and cars sold as sets may have the product number K5925 printed on the packaging.

Please note that cars marked "Thailand" are NOT involved in this recall.

If you have any of these toys at home, please take them away from your children and return them to Mattel for a replacement toy.

You can contact Mattel on (800) 916-4997 anytime or visit their website.

August 17, 2007 16:57 - Heat Baby's Food or Milk Anywhere!

Question: What happens if you're out and about with your baby and you need to warm his food or milk - but there's nowhere to plug in your food warmer?

Answer: Instead of using a warmer that has a cord, invest in the innovative Grab 'n Go Bottle Warmer from One Step Ahead.

With no need for an electrical supply - or batteries - the Grab 'n Go magically moulds itself to the jar or bottle and - at the press of a button - warms it up!

OK, so it's not magic, but we don't understand the technology behind it! What we DO know is that you have to reactivate the Grab 'n Go between uses by immersing it in boiling water. This is important to remember - you can only use it once while you're out, unless you have access to boiling water at some point during the day.

Alternatively, of course, you could buy two!

We think that this is a really useful accessory! Unlike some gadgets that SEEM brilliant but end up gathering dust at the back of a cupboard, this is one you'll actually USE... over and over again!

The Grab 'n Go Bottle Warmer is from One Step Ahead, priced at $14.95.
