May 21, 2007 08:41 - Free Trial at The Family Post

A cut above the usual photo-printing site or "baby blog", the Family Post is a new site established by Michael Sawtell, father to a one year old daughter. Michael became a father for the first time at age 47 and - like Dads everywhere - he subsequently devoted lots of time to recording the special moments in his new daughter's life!

He began storing his video clips and photos in e mail boxes or on photo sites, but became frustrated by the poor designs and limited capabilities of many of the family websites available.

Instead, he set about creating his own, high-end, quality family site - aesthetically pleasing, warm and accompanying family photographs and video clips with beautiful music and elegant design.

But there's more to The Family Post than the ability to display photos and videos. With many families spread across the world, Michael wanted a way for family members to be able to interact. Therefore, Family Post websites include cutting edge technology such as Qwik Post, which is easy to use and enables users to change text, upload photographs and make new pages.

Click the banner below and view the site's demo, which shows the range of impressive tools available - including the ability to share news, messages, e mails and more.

So how much does a Family Post website cost?

Depending on the features and amount of storage space you require, The Family Post websites range from $5.50 to $13.28 per month.

But you can try out this service ABSOLUTELY FREE for two weeks - or sign up for a year and RECEIVE ONE MONTH FREE... and see for yourself how The Family Post is a truly unique family website service.

May 22, 2007 14:11 - Reader's Tip - Plantain Balls

Back in February we made a post on our blog about the best ways to thicken foods you make for your baby - and this prompted an e mail from Soraya in Mexico. Soraya wrote...

"I've just been reading on your blog about how to thicken my baby's food and I thought I'd send you a suggestion of my own.

My daughter, Ana, is 10 months old and loves trying new foods. I often make her soups, but sometimes they are too runny for her. So to thicken them up and give them some texture, I put in bollitas de plátano, which are plantain balls.

They are very easy to make - you just peel a green plantain and grate it very finely. Then you roll it into balls in your hand, using a bit of flour to bind it all together.

When the soup has got about 10 minutes left to cook, then you just drop in the balls. You can add them to stews, too."

That's a great tip - thank you, Soraya.

If you'd like to share YOUR tip, then please contact us, or enter your recipe in our competition for a chance to win a $20 Amazon voucher.

May 23, 2007 14:36 - Exotic Pear Recipe For Baby

Does your baby enjoy pureed pears? If so, why not try something a little bit different and make him this delicious pear soup!

Sounds strange, doesn't it? But it tastes wonderful - fruit soups are actually very popular in many parts of Europe and if you taste this yourself, you'll see why.

Remember, too, that your baby has no concept of which foods should "go" together - and the delicate sweetness of this soup makes it very appealing to little ones! Make sure that your baby has been introduced to all the ingredients separately before you introduce him to this pear soup recipe!

What you will need...

1tsp vegetable oil
1tsp fresh ginger, chopped very finely (great for digestion)
1/2 tsp shallot, very finely chopped
5oz fresh, ripe pear, peeled, cored and sliced
4fl oz homemade chicken stock
2fl oz milk (you can use cow's milk, breast milk or formula)
sprig of parsley, chopped

Heat the oil in a medium pan and add the ginger and shallot. Saute them gently for a few minutes until the shallot is tender.
Pour in the stock, then add the pears.
Reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for around 15 minutes until the pears are soft.
Remove from the heat and blend in a food processor until smooth.
Return the mixture to the cooking pot and stir in the milk.
Warm very gently (do not boil), then stir in the chopped parsley and serve! Yum!

May 25, 2007 21:17 - Basil Contaminated With Salmonella (UK)

The UK's Food Standards Agency is warning that certain packets of fresh basil from Sainsbury's, ASDA and Somerfield may be contaminated with salmonella.

Some of the packs concerned may have reached their '"display until" and "best before" dates, but some customers may have frozen the herbs or used them as an ingredient in uncooked food.

The packs involved in this warning are labelled as "wash before use". Sainsbury's and Somerfield have withdrawn all their affected stocks displaying a best before date up to and including 28 May. ASDA has informed the Foods Standards Agency that the only affected batches it sold featured a "display until" date up to and including 18 May.

According to the Food Standards Agency, you should return basil bought from Sainsbury's or Somerfield, with a "best before" date up to and including 28 May, to the store you bought it from.

If you bought basil from ASDA with a "display until" date up to and including 18 May, please return it.
